Events and Trips Pre-Prep and Prep

Girls at Pipers Corner demonstrated their love of reading when they participated in World Book Day last week - the biggest annual celebration of books and reading in the UK and Ireland.

Pre-Prep and Prep girls came to school in fancy dress and it was wonderful to see them dressed as an array of their favourite characters including Dorothy, the BFG, Matilda, Paddington, the Worst Witch, Bottomley Potts covered in spots and Winnie the Pooh, to name a few.

In Pre-Prep the girls wrote book reviews about their own favourite stories, and then shared them with their friends. In Prep the girls took part in a “Big Book Swap” and thoroughly enjoyed a literature-themed assembly given by School Librarian, Mrs Harris.

Celebrating its 20th year World Book Day is an annual event that aims to turn millions of children into millions of readers. One of the ways in which the organisation does this is by distributing £1 World Book Day book tokens via schools and nurseries all over the country. The £1 book tokens, supplied by official sponsor National Book Tokens Ltd, can be exchanged for one of ten specially-published £1 World Book Day books which this year included titles by Enid Blyton, David Walliams and Jaqueline Wilson.

Headmistress, Mrs Ness-Gifford, said, “World Book Day is a wonderful way of bringing the girls together, as they talk about their favourite books and share their enjoyment of reading. It is a fabulous opportunity for girls to discover new authors, whilst also having a great deal of fun!”
