The Pre-Prep and Prep Departments at Pipers held a joint French poem competition on Tuesday. The girls were tasked with learning a short French poem by heart and presenting it to an audience made up of teachers, family and other girls.

Poetry reciting is taught extensively in schools in France and other francophone countries and is a big part of growing up in the French school system. Through the process of learning their poems the girls were encouraged to focus on their pronunciation, projection and the way in which they delivered the lines to the watching audience.

Congratulations to the following girls who were awarded first place in their year groups:

Year 2
Amalie B for her presentation of “Le Cheval fait…”

Year 3
Eleanor L for her presentation of “La Semaine”.

Year 4
Hilda H for her presentation of “Le Petit Oiseau”.

Year 5
Emma L for her presentation of “La Poulette”.

Year 6
Madeleine R for her presentation of “La Cartable d’Annabelle”.

French Teacher, Mme Gagnon said, “The girls taking part all did extremely well today and showed a great deal of effort and commitment in learning their poems. We hope that the competition will become an annual school event and look forward to running it again next year.”
