Year 5 enjoyed an exhilarating two days this week when they embarked upon a short residential trip to Blackland Farm. The multi-purpose activity centre, situated in the Sussex countryside, provides a whole host of residential adventures which encourage children to adopt healthy lifestyles. The girls had the opportunity to experience an assortment of physical activities, increasing their enjoyment and appreciation of the outdoors.

A big part of the trip was the chance for the girls to work as a team taking part in a series of fun, yet challenging, activities through which they learnt new skills and developed their self-esteem.

Activities the girls enjoyed included problem solving, canoeing, indy crossing, abseiling, orienteering and rock scrambling. They also took on a series of physical team challenges including the fiendish crate challenge in which the girls had to build a tower of crates with two participants on the top. The higher the tower the more it wobbles, until it collapses leaving the participants dangling in the air!

A trip highlight was a campfire and some games on Tuesday evening, when the girls each volunteered to sing a song or tell a riddle or joke around the campfire.

Deputy Head of Prep, Mr Cohen, who was one of the members of staff accompanying the girls on the trip said, “As a group we all enjoyed a fantastic couple of days at Blackland Farm. The girls embraced each activity offered to them with courage and enthusiasm, ensuring that they each gained a great deal from their experience.”
