Girls in Pre-Prep and Prep welcomed some special visitors to their assemblies today when “The Hand Hygiene Roadshow for Schools” came to talk to them all about the importance of maintaining healthy hands.

With the help of puppets, Rosie and Robbie, the girls learnt all about the actions we should take to help us to not spread germs to others. The girls had to think of occasions when they should wash their hands, such as when they have used the toilet, before and after they eat, and when they have been playing with their pets. They also discussed the importance of using tissues when we sneeze and covering our mouths when we cough.

During each presentation three willing volunteers took part in an experiment to demonstrate how germs can easily be spread from person to person simply by shaking each other’s hands.

By the end of the sessions all the girls knew that they should wash their hands for as long as it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice in order to maintain healthy hands and help to keep everyone germ-free.
