Whole School Pre-Prep and Prep

The end of the first half-term of the academic year was celebrated in style at Pipers as we held our annual House Day. The whole community came to school in House mufti – each wearing clothing in the colour of their respective House.

At lunchtime the Sixth Form House teams, hosted stalls where other girls had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities for a small charge in aid of House charities. The activities on offer included guess the name of the dragon, pin the tail on the lion, guess the weight of the pasta jar and a challenge to see how many hula hoops girls could do! Girls could also have their hair braided and Milton House held a clothing exchange where unwanted items of clothing could be swapped for something someone else had donated.

In the afternoon there was a fantastic display of House Spirit when all girls in Prep and Senior School participated in Inter-House Performing Arts. This annual event is a special opportunity for girls of all ages to work together and put on a fantastic show. This year the girls had been challenged to create a 15 minute programme containing a House song, a Prep only song and a song (or mash-up of songs) from the 1990s. The girls had to include as much variety in their programmes as possible with a mixture of instrumentalists, dancers and singers participating in the performances.

At the end of the afternoon Mandeville were named as this year’s winning House, having impressed the three visiting judges with their ambitious harmonies and fantastic use of actions and movement.

Headmistress, Mrs Ness-Gifford, said “Events like this which allow the girls to collaborate together really brings out the best in them. I was hugely impressed by the tremendous support each and every student showed for each other today. Every individual contribution was integral to the success of the performances and House Spirit was very much in evidence throughout. It was a fantastic way to end what has been a highly successful half-term.”
