18 Pipers Girls, who are members of the Junior and Senior Debate Clubs from Years 7 - 11, enjoyed an informative, engaging and inspiring tour and workshop to the Parliament.

A tour of Parliament took the girls round the buildings to learn about their history as well as a visit to the House of Lords. The girls stood amongst the red benches and held an impromptu debate on reducing the voting age to 16. They then passed through Central Lobby, where MPs are regularly interviewed on TV.

Following from the tour, the girls took part in the Laws and Debating Workshop where students were introduced to how the public, MPs, peers and the monarch shape our laws. They were able to apply and develop their debating skills by simulating the process of passing a bill on a topic of their choice - banning single use plastics - into law through active role play, participating in debates and votes along the way.
