On Friday 18 November, four girls in Year 6 had the opportunity to represent the Pipers Corner Prep Department at the Primary School History Competition, held at Davenies School.

The team consisted of Alice T (History subject leader), Carys V, Evie C and Millie B. The girls competed against 13 other schools and were awarded a special Highly Commended Award for correctly identifying more historical faces than any other team during the picture round.

After the challenges and before the results were announced the girls were able to listen to a talk about World War One, delivered by members of staff from Haileybury College. The talk focused on the Lyon brothers, who were taught at Haileybury and fought and died during World War One. It provided all the competitors with a fantastic insight into the personal lives of school children during the war.

This was the first inter-schools History competition run by Davenies and will hopefully become an annual event on the Prep Department’s calendar.

Head of Prep, Mrs Etchegoyen said “The girls had a fantastic afternoon, working as a team to explore History through the ages. Receiving the Highly Commended Award was an excellent achievement - well done!"
