The summer break was not a time to down-tools for two of our A Level students; Evie C and Jaimie W, who chose to seize the opportunity to participate in the highly-competitive National Youth Theatre Summer Stage Management Course.

Both students showcased their passion and dedication by successfully securing coveted spots in this exclusive program. As part of application process, Evie and Jaimie were tasked with presenting their imaginative set designs and prop concepts for a hypothetical stage production of "Heart Stopper," a popular literary series by Alice Oseman that has also found its way onto the screens of millions through the hit Netflix series.

Leveraging their respective skill sets, Evie C, a dedicated Upper Sixth student and recently announced Deputy Head Girl, is studying A Level courses in Business, English, and Drama, and Jaimie W, a talented Lower Sixth student is embarking on A Level studies in Politics, Drama, and Design Technology.

From hundreds of applicants, only 20 individuals were granted admission to the course. This select group, which included Evie and Jaimie, benefited from direct interactions with industry professionals who shared their wealth of knowledge and expertise. Over the course of their summer adventure, these students received hands-on training in various aspects of stage management, including backstage logistics, production scheduling, set design, show technology and artistic direction. Their collective mission? To craft a visually captivating theatre experience that transported audiences through ever-evolving decades from the 1920s to the 1980s.

Reflecting on her experience, Evie shared, "It has provided me with a profound appreciation for the intricacies of backstage management—an area I am eager to explore further, with dreams of eventually attending the renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama." Jaimie echoed this sentiment, stating, "This experience reaffirmed my A Level choices, as I witnessed first-hand how my passion for these subjects seamlessly translates into real-world career prospects."
