Representatives from Action 4 Youth spoke to Year 11 about the fantastic opportunity to join the government funded “NCS”, National Citizen Service. The programme equips children and young adults between 11-17 with amazing skills and responsibilities over a three week residency in order to add to their personal development.

The first week of the programme involves an arrays of challenges and activities such as stand up paddle boarding, rafting and abseiling. This provides girls with an opportunity to meet other other like minded young people, as well as challenging themselves, try new activities and to build on skills such as teamwork and leadership, but most importantly to have fun.

The second week involves meetings with influential people such as athletes who talk about their success stories and what it took for them to get to where they are today. It also involves visiting a local charity and getting to know about what they do to help those in need before setting up a Social Action Plan. This is then presented to the ‘Dragons’ in order to obtain funding for the third and final weeks' challenges. Working with the charity is then the focus of the third and final week where individual groups spend the time to present a “Social Action Plan”. This helps them improve upon their presentation skills as well as interview skills essential skills for the future.

The NCS programme is recognised by UCAS and will support anyone considering the Gold Duke of Edinburgh. It is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to add to their personal development as well as meet new people and have fun whilst continuously working on skills to take them further when applying for higher education and their future career.
