Pipers launched a virtual gardening club this term, with the support of Jacqui Matren-Lof (who runs our Gardening Club and is also Head Gardener at Horatio’s Garden at Stoke Mandeville Hospital).

Hosted from her own garden, Jacqui invites members of the Pipers community to her Zoom meeting once a week and covers various topics which have included planting and potting on techniques, sowing seeds, vegetables patches and pest control (including using copper pennies to deter slugs!).

Students are already reaping the rewards of their gardening efforts, harvesting radishes and watching other plants and vegetables progress. The virtual club has also launched a climbing bean and sunflower competition and we are looking forward to seeing the tallest contenders!

While the school site has been closed and Gardening Club unable to run at school, Jacqui has been keeping her club members up-to-date with the progress in the Pipers Greenhouse, where plants have continued to flourish.
