What a wonderful week exploring the world of science to celebrate British Science Week.

Students from all year groups took part in an extensive programme of science themed activities; Year 3 raced balloon rockets and looked at how friction affected the speed, Year 4 built motorised monsters out of brushes, Year 5 watched the chemical reaction in their home-made lava lamps, Year 6 constructed mini pedestal fans that ran on solar energy, Year 8 designed and made 3D DNA models, Year 9 students had the opportunity to dissect a heart and our Year 10s attended a talk by the Thames Valley Police Forensics team.

Meanwhile, during lunch times Year 4 and 5 students filled the Eco Science Lab with the smell of lavender and rose as they made colourful bath bombs, overseen by our Sixth Form Scientists, whilst Years 3 and 6 went for a walk in Space right here on campus and Year 3 were challenged to make the best paper aeroplane.

Throughout the week students were challenged to look at science differently, thinking about the affect and influence of science on the environment and world around us, proving that not all scientist wear lab coats.

The week concluded with some science magic in a session for Pre-Prep on unseen forces. They looked at magnets, floating and sinking, how force affects blowing bubbles, static electricity and made colourful ‘magic cakes’ using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar.
