The giant inflatable globe was back this week as we celebrated our World Earth Week.

Students have been considering how we are all global citizens and taking part in a variety of activities, many of which were organised by our Helping Others Protect the Environment (HOPE) group.

On Wednesday, our Year 5 students took part in a virtual "Action Speaks Louder" eco-conference with local schools; Holmer Green Junior School and Longwick CofE Primary School, during which they discussed climate change, sustainability and environmental issues. Each school was then asked to come up with a list of activities that they can do to make a difference.

Throughout the week Year 7 scientists headed out into the school grounds to conduct a wildlife audit, finding an abundance of flora and fauna and even a lizard! All the information collected will form part of our ongoing biodiversity database.

Meanwhile, we were joined by the sustainability specialist from the School's catering team Holroyd Howe, who talked to our HOPE group about the sustainability of consumable products and career opportunities specialising in sustainability. She then spent time with our Year 3s discussing pollination and the importance of bees and the students had many well-considered questions.

During lunch time on Thursday, students and staff had the opportunity to write down their own personal message to World Leaders, sharing their hopes and thoughts for the future, many of which focused on securing the future of our planet.

We also received a video from Juan, an Amazonian Indian and friend of Pipers. He sent us a personal message straight from the Amazon, supporting our World Earth Week.

The week will culminate in some of the HOPE group joining a beach clean in Brighton on Sunday, organised by Surfers Against Sewage and the Marine Conservation Society. The group will then meet a member of the Green Party to discuss their thoughts on making a difference to the environment and the many wonderful initiatives they have implemented here at Pipers.
