Pipers was filled with anticipation, House spirit and sporting achievement at our annual Sports Day last Thursday.

We were delighted to welcome back parents to spectate and it was fantastic to see the field filled once again with parents, teachers and students soaking up the atmosphere and supporting their Houses.

The morning saw Pre-Prep and Prep students take on a variety of sporting activities during our Junior Sports Day. Particular highlights included the obstacle course, the egg and spoon race and the 100m relay, and a new record was set in Discus by Zoe in Year 6 with an impressive distance of 18.16m! Students were very excited when parents took to the track for the return of a fiercely competitive parents race; it was great to see so many parents get involved in the House spirit that Pipers is known for.

An afternoon of Senior track events began with an exciting student parade down Jubilee Way and around the field. House spirit built as chants and cheering echoed around the grounds. A few House mascots even made an appearance in the parade including Hampden’s infamous Unicorn.

The afternoon track events did not disappoint as students were able to showcase their incredible athletic abilities. A special congratulations to the following students for setting new records:
Darcey | Year 8 | Javelin | 25.71m
Ellie | Year 9 | Discus | 24.28m
Aoife | Year 10 | 200m | 29.00s

Alongside the track events, we were delighted to see long jump to take place on our brand-new long jump pit which was officially opened the previous week by gold medal winning Olympic athlete, Lorraine Ugen.

At the end of the day the Victrix Ludorum was announced as Year 10 student, Aoife, who proudly received her trophy, and Hampden were over-the-moon to be named as both the Senior and Junior House winners, making them the overall House Champions 2022! They were in full voice as they took their well-deserved winners lap around the track.

It was truly great to see all students from all year groups get involved with their Houses for a day of sporting fun and achievement.
