Academic Upper Sixth

A Level students at Pipers have been celebrating their success in the summer examinations - their first formal examinations since their GCSEs exams were cancelled in summer 2020.

Overall the results have maintained the incredibly high standards of both the pre-pandemic and pandemic years with yet another year with a 100% pass rate and for the sixth year in a row.

Individual successes included Head Girl, Grace J, who started up her own business during the first lockdown and today achieved 2 A*s and 1 A grade, as well as an A* in an EPQ. She’s not alone in receiving all A*/A grades, however, - with 37% of her year group achieving a clean sweep of these top grades in their A Levels. Prefect Elizabeth M secured 3 A*s as well as an A* in her EPQ and will be heading off to Newcastle to study Medicine next month. Other successful scientist included Isabelle L with all A*s/A in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Twins Elizabeth and Catriona R, achieved 6 A*s/As between them across A Levels in English Literature, Drama, Dance and Psychology. Another student who has so often been seen in lead roles in major school productions, Lily B, has offers from both Drama Schools and the University of Bristol as a result of her top A*/A grades in English Literature, Drama and RS. Textiles scholar, Hannah L, achieved all A*s/A grades in Textiles, Product Design and Psychology - as did Emily P, but for her in Food Science and Nutrition and Geography as well as in Textiles - with both students moving on to study Textiles at degree level next year.

Almost every student at Pipers has been offered a place at their first choice of university with students now having the opportunity to study for degrees in a diverse range of courses all over the country, including Accounting and Finance at Birmingham University , Philosophy and German at the University of Liverpool, Midwifery at the University of Manchester and Politics and International Relations at the University of Nottingham.

Headmistress, Helen Ness-Gifford, said that she was “truly delighted that all the hard work has paid off - though the achievements of this year group go far beyond mere examination results. It has been a delight to have them at the top of the school and to see the many ways in which they have adapted to the changes in their lives over the past two and a half years. They have been inspirational role models for the younger students in the school and we will miss their warmth and compassion - and their sense of fun. They have learnt so much in their time at Pipers, not all of it from the syllabus…and I could not be prouder of all they have achieved.”
