The first week of being an Upper Sixth student is often filled with excitement and new challenges, but for Zoe P, it held a prestigious event that marked a significant step towards her dream of making a positive change in the world. Zoe, a dedicated and talented Upper Sixth student studying Politics, Mathematics and Geography, was shortlisted as a finalist in the prestigious 2023 John Locke Institute Global Essay Competition, with an entry titled "What might account for the different levels of political corruption in the UK and France?" showcasing her deep understanding of politics and her keen analytical skills.

Zoe learned of her shortlisting as a finalist at the end of the Summer break, it was an impressive feat considering the competition received over 19,000 entries from 183 countries. She was subsequently invited to Oxford for an exclusive academic conference and awards dinner last weekend, where the winners were announced.

The event itself was a remarkable experience filled with intellectual stimulation and cultural enrichment. From a delightful dinner at St Hilda's College to thought-provoking lectures and seminars at The St Cross Building, Zoe had the opportunity to engage with diverse perspectives. Meeting students from various countries broadened her horizons and allowed her to exchange ideas, which for Zoe was the most rewarding aspect of the event.

The pinnacle of the event was the Awards ceremony at the historic Sheldonian Theatre, where Zoe was presented with a Distinction for her essay. Among thousands of entries, she was one of only 10 students to receive this prestigious accolade on the evening.

Zoe's achievement is testament to the potential and talent that young individuals possess, when their passions are nurtured. Helped by the many opportunities for growth at Pipers: Zoe, a recently elected Academic Prefect, has the opportunity to pursue interests at School that extend far beyond those of her A Level studies. An active member of the Debating Team, an avid writer and contributor to the Creative Writing Club with one self-published Dystopian novel under her belt and a second in the making, as well as flying the flag for environmental conservation within the HOPE society (Helping Others Protect the Environment) and regularly attending the Schools most recent initiative –‘Lunchtime Lectures’ - a series to encourage Intellectual debate amongst Senior and Sixth Form students.

Outside of School, Zoe is actively engaged in her local political party, displaying a passion for the political arena aligning to her aspirations which are as grand as her achievements; she aims to study Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at Oxford and has her sights set on a career in government, with the ultimate goal of becoming the Prime Minister. Her motivation is clear: she wants to create a positive change in the world and we look forward to watching that happen.
