Congratulations to Sleepsentials – one of Pipers Young Enterprise teams – who won the Sustainability Award at last week’s Young Enterprise Trade Fair in Maidenhead.

Young business people from around the area, put their products and services on show at Nicholsons Shopping Centre to be judged on business plans, product development and trade skills.

The Sleepsentials Team won most sustainable business, and it’s not hard to see why. The United Kingdom produces 206 tonnes of textile waste in a year, and Sleepsentials products have been designed to combat this issue by turning unwanted fabric in to drawstring bags, eye masks and hot water bottle covers.

By upcycling fabric sourced from the School’s Textile Department off-cuts and donations from the wider community, fabric that would otherwise go to landfill is being turned in to something highly desirable, highly sustainable, and good for the planet. It’s a win-win!
