Events and Trips Pre-Prep

Girls in Pre-Prep had great fun just before half-term when they took part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch.

The Birdwatch has taken place each year since 1979 when the RSPB wanted to start a simple winter activity that their junior membership could get involved in. They decided to ask their members to count the birds in their gardens, all at the same time, so that they could work out what the UK's top 10 most common garden birds were. Since then the Birdwatch has built up into the regular event it is today. In 2016, more than 519,000 people all over the UK counted an incredible 8,262,662 birds.

Armed with their binoculars the Pre-Prep girls braved the cold and ventured out to see what birdlife they could find in the school grounds. They managed to spot a number of species including pigeons, crows, blackbirds, sparrows, and, a bird we see quite a lot at Pipers, a red kite.

Head of EYFS and Key Stage 1, Miss Holloway said, “We all had fantastic fun taking part in the Big Garden Birdwatch. It was lovely way to encourage the girls to take more time to look at the world around them and enjoy all the wildlife that lives in our local habitats.
