Spring Concert

This academic year has brought many opportunities for the girls at Pipers Corner to demonstrate their musical talents. With regular informal concerts for girls in all year groups and performances at a number of school events our musicians have relished the opportunity to share in music-making.

Their hard work and effort all came together this week when our Senior girls (along with a selection of some of our younger students) presented a Spring Concert. It was a wonderful evening of music encompassing a variety of genres from jazz to gospel, classical and even a performance on Boomwhackers!

With performances by girls from all music enrichment clubs the concert began with Sinfonia who performed the “William Tell Overture”, the James Bond theme tune and a selection of tunes from “Les Miserables”. The musical talent continued with some individual solo performances, the Junior Chamber Choir singing Gary Barlow’s “Sing” and the Jazz Band who presented a number of pieces including “Fly me to the Moon” and “Feeing Good”. Perhaps a highlight from the evening were the performances from three of our new Rock bands - Harmonix, Blue Venus and XXVI - who performed songs by bands including Deep Purple, TLC and The Pretty Reckless.

The concert ended with two ensemble pieces. The first was a rendition of “O When the Saints” on Boomwhackers – tuned percussion tubes, designed to be played by groups. The final piece saw all the performers come together to sing “I’m a Believer” with backing from the Jazz Band.

Headmistress, Mrs Ness-Gifford, said “It was an absolute privilege to watch a concert that reflected such warmth, musical joy, and of course talent. I was incredibly impressed by all the girls and thoroughly enjoyed the variety of pieces they presented.”
