Girls in Year 7 were lucky enough to experience a hugely interesting cross-curricular visit to St Alban’s Cathedral recently.

Throughout the day the girls took part in a variety of workshops including learning about Christian pilgrimage on a “Pilgrim Trail” round the Cathedral which was once the most important pilgrimage site in Europe.  The girls used props and clothes to dress up in character and re-enacted a medieval pilgrimage. They explored the Cathedral building and learnt about the significance of pilgrimage to people of that time.

The girls also took part in the “Signs and Symbols” trails and discovered more about the different artefacts within the cathedral and how they related to Christian worship. They learnt about the significance of candles, food, communion, baptism and bells. After this they created their own clay tiles to match the floor tiles they learnt about on the trail.

A joint venture for Religious Studies, History and Art, the trip really brought Medieval times to life for the girls, enabling them to consider the subject areas in a completely new way.
