The recent Paralympic Games provoked a huge question in Sophie's mind, why are we not all treated the same? So much so that she wrote to Lord Sebastian Coe to say how much she hoped the Games had changed the public's opinion. It was an exciting moment at Pipers when a letter with the official Paralympic logo appeared on the doorstep alongside a fabulous stuffed Mandeville, the Paralympic mascot.

The letter Sophie received said, "We were interested to read your views about disability and appreciate you taking the time to write. It has always been an aim to use the London 2012 Games to change people's perceptions about disability and we are pleased that you think that we have achieved this. We certainly hope that one day everyone will think about disability in the same way you do."

Headmistress, Mrs Ness-Gifford, "It is very refeshing to see someone so young being affected in such a positive manner from this summer's sporting achievements.  In fact in a recent role model poll within school, Ellie Simmonds was recognised in the top five. I am delighted our girls feel that discriminatory attitudes, in any form, are outdated and this is clearly shown in the letter Sophie wrote."
