Senior School Pre-Prep and Prep

As part of their History lessons girls in Year 7 have been learning about British Medieval castles. This term they were set the challenge of taking part in the annual Year 7 Castle Building Competition.  Their model could be in the style of either a motte and bailey castle or a specific English Medieval castle of their choice.

The girls have worked hard all term on this project and the finished results demonstrated an excellent knowledge of a range of types of castle. It was very clear to see the girls’ creativity and imagination, with castles made out of icing, lolly sticks, sugar cubes and card. All girls and staff were then invited to come and view the castles and vote on which one was their favourite.

The winners were:

First – Libby T for her textiles inspired Windsor Castle.

Runners up – Isla B (Bodiham Castle), Sophie B (Windsor Castle) and Annie S (who, in a twist to the format, created a film about her visit to Kenilworth Castle).

Head of History, Mrs Tinnelly said “The girls’ ability to produce fantastic castles always amazes me.  I was very impressed with their ability to research a specific castle and design a fantastic replica using interesting techniques. The whole project has served as excellent enrichment to the work we have been doing in the classroom.”
