Pre-Prep and Prep Clubs & Activities

This week Year 6 had a fantastic day in the Forest as part of the Prep Department Forest School Days initiative, where the girls in each year group spend the day learning outside.

The theme was “Pirates” and the girls started their day by making camps, using tarpaulin as their shelter. They then created fire pits to cook food on and also made their own flags to mark their territory.

During the day the group participated in a number of activities including making small rafts out of bamboo, which they floated on water to see which ones would sink or float, building a tower out of wood and branches found in the forest, and taking part in an obstacle course amongst the Laurel trees. They also enjoyed the challenge of identifying the different trees in the school grounds by looking at their leaves.

After their BBQ lunch the girls took part in a treasure hunt, before rounding off the day with hot chocolate and smores around the campfire as they reflected on their experience.

Forest School Co-ordinator, Miss Easterbrook said “It was a wonderful day for Year 6 and the girls really enjoyed taking part in all the different activities. Forest School is a great way to build on team working skills and provides a hands-on learning experience which acts as great enrichment to everyday school life.”
