British Science Week at Pipers culminated in a hands-on workshop delivered by Medical Mavericks. This innovative show promotes NHS and STEM careers and showed the students how to effectively take blood from a fake arm, use an ultrasound machine, give them the opportunity to try keyhole surgery and much more. Each student was given their own observation sheet to fill in and were given valuable information about what careers are accessible with levels 9-4 at GCSE.

As part of the Medical Mavericks team, Alumnae Victoria H left Pipers to study Sport and Exercise Science at Swansea University followed by a Masters in Biomechanics and Technology. As part of her career so far, Victoria helped develop mouthguards that detect concussion in Rugby (with a focus on Women's Rugby) and is now working for Medical Mavericks as a great stepping-stone to working in medical technology.
