On Wednesday girls in Reception visited Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Haddenham, and had a fantastic time seeing all the different types of wild animals being treated there. Tiggywinkles is a specialist hospital, dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating all species of British wildlife using all available veterinary expertise. Every year the staff treat over 10,000 animal casualties. On their arrival the girls were introduced to a hedgehog with three legs and a 90 year old tortoise called “Helmet”. The girls were also taught the difference between a frog and a toad; a frog hops and a toad walks.

The girls had a tour of the centre where they learnt the history of Tiggywinkles and watched a presentation about all the animals that the centre has successfully treated. The girls were very excited when they got the opportunity to handle an antler from a deer who had been treated at the hospital.

The girls didn't come home empty handed, Headmistress, Mrs Ness-Gifford, who accompanied the girls on their trip, bought a hedgehog house for them to put in Forest School to encourage hedgehogs to visit.

Mrs Ness Gifford said, “It was a pleasure to accompany the Reception girls on their trip and I couldn't be prouder of their behaviour and enthusiasm for wildlife and nature. It was a fantastic way to introduce girls to animals they hadn't seen before and I am sure the girls will remember this experience for a long time.”
