Senior School Pre-Prep and Prep

Year 7 have been learning about Medieval England in their History lessons this term. In order to enrich their studies the girls made the most of an opportunity to take part in a practical workshop on Monday delivered by History Squad.

History Squad is a professional historical interpretation company working with schools around the UK helping bring history to life.  The session took the girls through a practical demonstration covering life in Medieval England from the crises of Kingship in 1066 to the preparations for war at the end of the period.

Kevin Hicks, from History Squad, gave an archery demonstration to show how battles were fought at the time and also demonstrated medical techniques used on the battlefield. He regaled the group with historical stories and anecdotes, including how the King was wounded and treated in a battle when he had an arrow shot at his face.

Head of History, Mrs Tinnelly said “The History Squad workshop was a fun and engaging way for the girls to revise key aspects of the period whilst further enriching their understanding of how people in Medieval times lived.  It was a fantastic day and I think the girls really benefited from doing something a little bit different.”
