Pre-Prep and Prep

Girls in Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed an exciting visit to Bletchley Park as part of their Mathematics and History lessons. Their aim was to learn about the work of the code breakers and the machines used during World War Two.

The group were given a tour by a gentleman whose aunt had worked at Bletchley Park during the war.  He provided the girls with a fantastic insight into why Bletchley Park was so important in helping the country to win the war and why it was essential to keep its activities a secret.  He also explained why it is now so important to remember the work of the people involved and to keep re-telling their stories.

After the tour the girls participated in a variety of workshops where they were able to use the famous enigma machine and had the opportunity to crack codes themselves.

They also visited the huts where the code breakers worked and the “Imitation Game” exhibit which included costumes and props from the film starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Head of Prep Learning, Mr Leith said “The day was fantastic and really interesting for the girls and the staff.  Seeing the grounds, exhibits and listening to guides really opened the girls’ eyes as to how and why Bletchley was so important during the war years.”
