Bucks Book Award 2020

CLiPPA 2018 Poetry Award Winner Karl Nova visited Pipers Corner to talk to the students about his work. He also announced the Bucks Book Award 2020 winner and participated in some creative workshops.

A number of local schools joined the Pipers Corner students for his talk. The theatre was alive with excitement as the students listened to the life story of this alternative artist. Karl grew up in London, but spent some of his time in Africa and was at school in Suffolk.  From age eight he learnt to rap and quickly realised that rap is simply a combination of poetry and rhythm. He explained to the students that it is important to persevere with writing, to be observant and write down what you see. His career has now seen him publish his first book, work with the Premier League, win several accolades and most importantly he feels, allowed him  to  dedicate his life to what he loves, writing and music. In 2019 he was very proud to be approached to be an ambassador for National Poetry Day. 

Karl was delighted to announce the winner of the Bucks Book Award 2020, which went to Holly Jackson for her novel "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder". Holly is a local author based in Great Missenden. The Bucks Book Award was launched in 2018 to promote the best books written for children and young adults that were published in the last 12 months.The aim is to inspire and empower young people to read more and to share their love of reading with others. Studies have found that reading for pleasure is also important for children’s intellectual development. Participation is open to all young people aged 11 to 14 years of age, who either live or attend a secondary school in Buckinghamshire. This year over 3000 votes were cast. Holly has a sequel novel out in April for any avid fans!
