Whole School Charity

As a community, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy wonderful lunches during term time and we also take great pride in our charitable efforts. On Friday 13 December, our students and staff embraced a different kind of charitable initiative by having a World Hunger Awareness lunch and a thought-provoking assembly.

The simple but nutritious lunch provided to students and staff consisted of roasted tomato and fresh basil soup, autumn root vegetable soup with pearl barley, homemade bread and herb croutons and a selection of whole fruit for dessert. Having a brief and simple meal, offers a chance for our students to practice resilience, empathy and gratitude - values we believe are integral to their growth and development. The money saved from not having a larger lunch on this day will be donated to local food charities.

To continue learning about this initiative, Year 12 students Trixie F, Ellie B, Sophia P, Adriana S, Emma B and Roisin M ran a World Hunger Awareness Day assembly, highlighting the realities faced by people in many parts of the world including here in the UK, where food insecurity is a daily challenge. They also gave insightful information about making good decisions in what you eat, emphasising portion sizes, food waste and only taking what you feel you can finish. The luncheon and assembly are small yet impactful ways for us to raise awareness of global food crisis.

Linked to this initiative, on Monday 16 December students are invited to come into school wearing a festive Christmas Jumper. In order to participate, students are asked to bring in any food item to be donated to the Wycombe Food Hub.

This initiative has invited a different kind of generosity in our School community: the ability to give up a little for the sake of others. A huge thank you to our students for their open minds and positive mindsets.
