The Three Witches

Year 5 have really embraced learning all about Shakespeare's life and works recently.

They learnt and delivered Act 1 Scene 1 from Macbeth -'The Three Witches' scene. The students worked hard to understand the text, develop their physicality and consider the use of dramatic pausing and effective staging. This resulted in some very powerful performances. The project is a perfect cross-curricular marriage of English, History, Music and Dance. The students only had 3 weeks to create their scene, reading an appropriate version of Macbeth in preparation.

More powerful than any of the characters was the maturity of the students involved and how they engaged with their audience during the performance. We hope in the future to take the girls on a trip to Stratford Upon Avon, to visit Shakespeare's home and learn more about the playwright. The students will now be moving onto 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.
