On Friday 8 April and Saturday 9 April, Emilia M (Year 8) was one of 10 lucky students selected from London, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire to participate in the 2016 High Wycombe Piano Festival.

The festival comprised of a series of masterclasses that culminated in a public concert at Wycombe High School.  Each participant involved had reached a high standard of performance within their own ability level playing a prepared programme of two or more pieces, with one being a classical piece.  Emilia prepared a programme of “Etude” by Philip Glass and “60s Swing” by Evelien Vis.

The aim of the masterclass was to help the students improve their performance skills and to learn from listening and talking to other participants and tutors.  Over the two days Emilia was taught by internationally renowned concert pianist Philip Fowke and former Royal Academy of Music professor Graeme Humphrey.  Certificates were awarded at the end of the concert by County Councillor Leslie Clarke OBE.

Director of Music, Miss Randles said “This was a fantastic opportunity for Emilia and she thoroughly enjoyed the masterclass and performance.  The experience will greatly benefit her playing and she will continue to flourish.”
