Academic Pre-Prep and Prep

Girls at Pipers Corner have been learning all about CPR this week, focussing on how taking action quickly can save the life of someone who goes into cardiac arrest.

Girls in Year 9 were shown a film tutorial in class that provided a demonstration of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, an emergency procedure in which a person presses up and down on the casualty’s chest (chest compressions) and gives them a series of rescue breaths to help save their life when they are in cardiac arrest.

Using a British Heart Foundation “Call Push Rescue” training kit the girls then made use of the equipment provided to carry out CPR on a portable manikin and practise the actions for themselves.

It is the aim of the British Heart Foundation to increase cardiac arrest survival rates by creating a Nation of Lifesavers. Raising awareness of CPR in schools is just one way in which this aim can be supported.

In their assembly our younger girls in Prep were treated to a CPR demonstration from school nurse, Sister Skeggs. She talked them through the process and helped them to understand the importance of being aware of life-saving techniques.
