Academic Year 6

We were thrilled to welcome families to our Arts Centre on Tuesday evening for a discussion about the exciting opportunities ahead for our Prep 6 students. We were especially pleased to greet our new families, many of whom joined as part of our expanded Year 6 intake, as Pipers now moves to two forms. This final year of Prep provides a fantastic introduction to Senior School for all pupils.

Mr Urquhart, Head of Pre-Prep and Prep, emphasised the unique experience Year 6 at Pipers offers: "Our students benefit from a rich blend of academic, creative, and sporting pursuits, which are designed to ease their transition to Senior School. It’s a year of leadership, teamwork, and personal development. With around 20 new students joining the year group each year, bringing fresh energy and perspectives. Our holistic approach and primary phase ethos help new students quickly settle in and enjoy the advantages of a true 'through-school' environment."

During the Information Evening, Mr Urquhart outlined the exciting activities awaiting Year 6 this year, starting with an off-site team-building day where new and existing students bond through outdoor adventure activities.

Opportunities for leadership are abundant throughout the year. Year 6 take on responsibilities such as organising the Prep Charity Challenge, raising funds for their chosen causes through games, auctions and challenges. Leadership extends to dedicated teams focused on Charity, Eco initiatives and House duties.

Looking ahead, the much-anticipated Year 6 ski trip will take place in January, following last year’s memorable trip to Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Students will also enjoy linguistic challenges, such as hosting the French Café event in the Arts Centre. Their theatrical talents will shine in the much anticipated summer production, with past performances including Frozen Jr and Shrek, where students not only perform but also contribute to costume and set design.

Year 6's academic journey includes English Speaking Board exams, allowing students to present confidently about their interests. This builds skills for future School activities like debating and public speaking. Prep Art Day is another highlight in the Year 6 calendar, giving students the chance to work in the Senior Art Studio, exploring artistic techniques in a professionally equipped space.

We look forward to seeing how our current Year 6 cohort makes the most of this final year of Prep. Prospective parents are encouraged to visit our admissions page for information on joining Pipers at this exciting stage of your child’s educational journey.
