Pre-Prep and Prep Events and Trips

On Tuesday girls in the Pre-Prep and Prep Departments enjoyed a fantastic interactive visit from a team from the London Science Museum. The girls thoroughly immersed themselves in a series of lectures and workshops on the topics of forces and materials.

The day started with Year 3 – 6 being introduced to the different forces that shape our world.  They learnt about gravity, air resistance, friction and magnetic forces with the help of Phil the stunt frog demonstrating how these forces work by using rockets, cars and shot putting for the Highland Games.

Year 6 were then treated to an interactive workshop on “Getting a Grip” where the girls found out about opposing forces, took part in a tug-of-war, and built their very own anti-friction hovercraft using a CD, bottle top and a balloon.

Finally Pre-Prep and Year 3 experienced “The Bubble Show” where they found out about the secret Science Museum bubble recipe and how certain materials can change the way other materials behave. Two girls also had the opportunity to go inside a giant bubble.

Head of Prep, Mr Leith said “The girls in Pre-Prep and Prep had a fantastic day with the team from the Science Museum. The visit really inspired the girls as they tackled some fascinating subject matter in such new and exciting ways.”
