Pre-Prep and Prep Events and Trips

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic trip to RHS Wisley Gardens in Woking in June.  The girls have spent time learning about plants in their Science lessons this term and the trip gave them the opportunity to investigate them further outside the classroom.

The girls spent the morning inside the glasshouse, which has three climatic zones, recreating tropical, moist temperate and dry temperate habitats.  For each climate the girls explored what types of plants grew in the different conditions. They also had the opportunity to find out all sorts of interesting facts about how plants adapt to their environment.

In the afternoon the girls were set a task to see if they could count how many different roses and colours there were in the garden and took a walk round the gardens to see the lily pads and fish pond.

Deputy Head of Prep and Year 3 teacher, Miss Eagles said “We had a wonderful day at Wisley and the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  It was fantastic for the girls to be able to see such a huge variety of exotic plants, some of which they had never seen before. Gaining an appreciation of how different environments affect how plants grow and live was very useful as a method of extending their understanding of topics they have been studying in their Science lessons.”
