Prep girls at Pipers Corner were inspired to take on a fitness challenge on Wednesday afternoon when they hosted their very own "Mini London Marathon" charity cross-country event.

The actual London Marathon takes place on Sunday 23 April and the Pipers community will be supporting Mr Rees, our Director of Digital Strategy, who will be attempting this feat for the first time in aid of children’s charity, Barnardo's.

The girls’ Mini Marathon took place in the school grounds over a route of approximately one mile. The course was lined with posters representing the London landmarks seen along the route of the actual London Marathon, designed and painted by Year 5 girls and organised by our Year 6 Geography subject leaders.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to have some fun, whilst raising some money for Barnardo’s, a charity whose purpose is to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children.

The event began with a warm up activity led by Miss Spinney, Head of Prep PE, before each year group set off on their run. The Pipers’ course ended with girls running up the games field (The Mall) towards the Headmistress's Study (Buckingham Palace) where every girl received a medal from the Headmistress, Mrs Ness-Gifford, as they crossed the finish line.

By the end of the event Pipers girls had collectively run the equivalent of 3.4 London Marathons!
