Year 13 A Level geographers enjoyed a trip to Boscombe to collect data for their NEA - worth 20% of their final Geography A Level.  The initial work started several months ago with the girls planning what they wanted to research for their independent investigations, which could be based on any aspect of the specification.  They chose to research crime, health, regeneration and perception of place which involved them planning exactly where in Boscombe they wanted to visit and what data they needed to collect.

As the weather was excellent for a Sunday in January, they started at the beach with a walk along the beach and picnic (although they had to eat in the minibus otherwise they really would have been eating 'sand'wiches!). They then met up with former Pipers Corner Head of PE, Ms Poore, who now lives in the area.  She brought along some of her friends who, usefully, work in the police, NHS and local council and they were able to provide a wealth of background information on Boscombe as a starting point for the rest of the investigation process.

The next two days were spent with girls visiting numerous locations to gather the data they needed.  Certainly some of the areas were eye opening; however, from a geographical perspective there was so much to learn.  Boscombe is a really interesting location with so much diversity in both its physical and human geography and it was such a great opportunity to spend the time there, delving into all that the town had to offer - fortunately this also included a fantastic pizza restaurant!

The trip was a great success and the girls are already underway with their write up - let's hope they do a great job!
