Sleeping Beauties

On Thursday girls from Year 1 and 2 took a trip to Waddesdon Manor to see the “Sleeping Beauty” paintings by Leon Baskt.

When they arrived the girls ascended into one of the turrets of the manor and were taken through the story of “Sleeping Beauty”. The girls had the opportunity to dress up and act the story out as they looked at each painting in the series. Afterwards the girls visited the Manor’s aviary to see the exotic birds, especially the fairy bluebird, which appears in one of the paintings.

To conclude their visit the girls completed an activity bringing together all the pictures they had seen and creating their own “Sleeping Beauty” artwork.

Head of Pre-Prep, Mrs Rushforth said “It was a fantastic opportunity to see these wonderful paintings and discuss them in such detail with the girls. We hope the trip will fire their imaginations and enable them to be creative in the follow up work in literacy and art.”
