Girls in Year 8 recently took part in an interesting visit to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir. Popularly known as the “Neasden Temple”. The visit provided the girls with an excellent opportunity to learn about Hinduism and get a first-hand experience of the Hindu faith in practice.

A highlight of the visit was observing an arti (sacred fire) worship ceremony, where the girls were able to listen to presentations and walk around taking in the atmosphere, sounds and smells of the Mandir.

The girls also had the opportunity to visit the “Understanding Hinduism” exhibition which describes the origins and beliefs of Hinduism. The exhibition also goes into more detail about the contribution of Hindu scholars in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, medicine, education and religion, which was very inspiring for the girls.

Throughout the visit they were able to sketch and take down notes of what they saw and found on their journey, which will be useful for follow up work in the classroom.

Head of Religious Studies, Mrs Gledhill said “This was another fantastic trip to Neasden Temple for Year 8. It proved to be a very interesting experience for the girls, helping them to develop their understanding of the importance of the Mandir and the role that it plays in the Hindu faith.
