Pre-Prep and Prep

Girls in Year 2 have been very busy in Forest School creating a new pond in the school’s woodland area with the help of Forest School staff. . The girls are hoping to attract animals such as frogs and newts to a new home.

First they made sure there were enough rocks in the bottom of the pond to help create places for animals to hide. The girls then made their way to the main school pond which is already the home to lots of little creatures such as snails and tadpoles. The girls carefully filled buckets with water and pond life which they then transported to their new home. Once back in the wood the girls put the water in to the newly formed pond. To make the pond a better place for animals, water lilies were also added. So far the new pond has attracted snails, a dragon fly and frog spawn, which the girls are hoping will develop into frogs soon.

Forest School provides a unique opportunity to learn through practical activities, in an environment that is totally removed from the traditional classroom setting. All girls in Pre-Prep and Prep have regular opportunities to experience Forest School which is a fantastic way to find out more about the outdoors. Other projects which will be happening in Forest School over the next few months will be the creation of a den within the trees and the building of fairy houses.

Miss Easterbrook, Forest School Co-ordinator said “Year 2 did remarkably well and demonstrated great enthusiasm for the creation of the new pond. Whilst it was a lot of fun the girls also learnt valuable lessons of teamwork and what sort of life you can find in these habitats. We are all looking forward to seeing how the new pond develops.”
