Fact finding for Year 11

In preparation for progressing into the Sixth Form, Year 11 girls have been finding out about the subjects offered at A Level at Pipers Corner to get them thinking about their choices and prepare them for the next stage in their education.

During two lunchtime sessions girls talked to each Head of Department and Sixth Form Subject Leader about what each subject entails, what they would be studying, if there are any extra-curricular opportunities they could get involved in. They also explored what they could go on to study at university and what careers they could do if they studied particular subjects.

Subjects on offer include: Art, Biology, Business and Economics, Chemistry, Dance, Drama, English Literature, Food Technology, French, German, Geography, History, ICT, Mathematics,, Music, PE, Physics, Product Design, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology and Textiles. Extra enrichment courses for Photography and Accounting are also available to study as AS Levels.

The girls found the sessions informative and engaging and really valued the opportunity to find out more about subjects they have not encountered before. In November a Sixth Form Information Evening is taking place where girls and parents will get a more in-depth look at the Sixth Form at Pipers, including a tour of the new Sixth Form Centre.

Acting Head of Sixth, Mrs Derbyshire, said “These ‘fact finding’ sessions for the girls are a fantastic way to be able speak to Department staff and current Sixth Formers studying the particular subjects and gain an insight into what they will be learning. The girls have all come away with a greater knowledge of the subjects available and will be able to make an informed decision when it comes to what to study at A Level.”
