Senior School Pre-Prep and Prep

On Saturday 30 January, Chloe B (Year 11) and Imogen S (Lower Sixth) took part in the local heats of the Rotary Young Chef Competition held at Pipers Corner School.

The competition is organised by the Rotary International of Great Britain and Ireland.  It is a four stage national competition to support and encourage development of cookery skills in young people.  The competition aims to help teach young people to cook a healthy meal, develop food presentation skills, consider food hygiene issues, develop organisational and planning skills and the ability to cope in a demanding situation.

The girls were tasked with preparing a two course healthy meal comprising of a starter and main dish for two people, costing less than £15 in 90 minutes. Chloe cooked fresh Thai fish cakes, served with cucumber, peanuts and a sweet chili sauce for her starter and Thai red curry, served with duck and jasmine rice for her main course.  Imogen cooked beetroot pancakes with a goat’s cheese sauce for her starter and then for her main course, pan fried duck, served with creamed cabbage, celeriac and caramelised pear.

Out of four participants, Imogen came first and Chloe came second. Both girls will now  go through to the district finals in March.

Head of Food Technology, Mrs Orr said, “I am very proud and pleased for Imogen and Chloe who performed exceptionally well on the day and created beautiful dishes for the judges. They prepared well for the competition and were rewarded for all their hard work and dedication. Good luck to them both in the next round!”
