Pre-Prep and Prep Art

This week started in a flurry of activity as the Prep Department went off timetable to celebrate their annual Art Day. Using the work of other artists, designers and sculptors to inspire our own art making the girls used a range of artistic techniques including oil painting, ceramics and collage to create some incredible pieces of art.

  • Year 3 and 4 were involved in a carousel of activities based on the work of Gustav Klimt, which included the creation of tiles and clay coil trees, block printing, collage and weaving to contribute to a “Tree of Life”.
  • Year 5 spent the day focusing on Picasso, constructing imaginative beasts inspired by his work, using a range of materials such as wire, card and items of recycling.
  • Year 6 produced pieces of dry point etching inspired by the work of Marianne North. They also made cut paper collages based on Matisse's work which they translated into freestanding reliefs.

It was wonderful to see all the year groups enjoying the opportunity to be creative and learn some new techniques. We look forward to seeing the results on display at next term’s whole school Art Exhibition.
