Congratulations to Pipers’ Young Enterprise company “Out of the Woods” who won the title of “Best Commercial Stand” at a judging event at the Eden Centre in High Wycombe on Sunday. This was the latest in a series of selling events, allowing Young Enterprise teams from across the area to showcase their products.

The following is a report from the Managing Director of Out of The Woods, Chloe B:

“On Sunday 4 February both Young Enterprise Teams from Pipers Corner - White Magic and Out Of The Woods - attended Eden's judging event. Both companies worked extremely to present the best trade stands possible and submitted evidence for specific awards.

I am very pleased to say that Out Of The Woods won the overall award presented on the day for the “Best Commercial Stand”, which essentially was the visual aspect of our trade stand and how we pitched our business. We had to follow a specific criteria meeting points such as a returns and customer service policy, the colour theme of our stands, advertisement, promotions...the list is endless, let’s just say there was a lot of work!

The process of Young Enterprise is all about working collaboratively as a team to create a real business that looks to sell products at different events across the year and also participate in the competition aspect of the process.

The two teams from Pipers this year have very different products and target markets:

  • Out Of The Woods up-cycle fallen down trees into a range of wooden homeware items including Chalkboards, Candle Holders and Necklaces.
  • White Magic's products, targeted at the younger market, look to provide the theme of magic through their magic fairy wish jars and fairy adoption certificates.

Our story at Out Of The Woods began at our first board meeting in which we worked collaboratively on product ideas. We then went on to manufacture these products, before advertising and marketing them through our website – www.outofthewoods.online - and social media platforms. As well as participating in selling events in Marlow, Beaconsfield, Bourne End, at School and at the Eden Centre, we have also had to submit a Business Plan for judging and several other portfolios for different awards. The team of Out Of The Woods have worked extremely hard to get the business off the ground, making over £1000 of profit in the first six months. The positive feedback we have received so far makes us so excited for the future and the potential success of our business.

On behalf of both teams I would like to thank our teachers, Mrs Crosse and Miss Kay, along with our Advisors, Chris and Graham, for their continued support on a weekly basis. We could not do it without them, thank you so much.

We are now looking forward to seeing how both companies get on at the Area Finals being held in March!”
