The school community thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to share in a fantastic evening of music-making at the Spring Senior Music Concert. Following on from the regular informal concerts given by girls throughout the academic year, the concert allowed the students to come together in the Arts Centre Theatre and demonstrate their musical talents.

It was a rich and varied programme encompassing a range of genres from jazz to gospel, classical and songs from the shows. With an over-riding theme of music from stage and screen, the concert began with Sinfonia who performed music from “Star Wars”, “The Pink Panther” and “Star Trek”, as well as “Jupiter” from Holst’s “The Planets”.

The musical talent continued with some individual solo vocal performances, followed by the Year 9 and 10 choir singing “It's Quiet Uptown” from the musical “Hamilton” and the Senior Singers giving a lovely rendition of “Sunrise Sunset” from “Fiddler on the Roof”. The Jazz Band presented a number of upbeat pieces including “Meet the Flintstones”, and the themes from “Chariots of Fire” and “Jurassic Park”.

There were a beautiful piano solo of Liszt’s “Consolation No. 3”, along with two performances from contemporary rock bands of “Human” by Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and “Ambition” by Doves. The concert ended with a Gospel Choir performance of “Stand by Me” by Ben E King, and a trio performance of “I Wish I May” from “The Witches of Eastwick”.

It was a hugely enjoyable evening and wonderful to watch the genuine enjoyment of music and being on stage shining through in the students’ performances.
