Year 5 enriched their understanding of British history this week when they spent an interesting day of discovery at Bentley Priory.

Bentley Priory Museum tells the fascinating story of the beautiful Grade II* listed country house, focusing on its role as Headquarters Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the important stories of “The One” Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, “The Few” who took to the air to defend our skies and “The Many” without whose tireless work on the ground victory would not have been possible and discover how technology, leadership and courage forged victory allowing Britain’s darkest hour to also be her Finest Hour.

Whilst at the Priory the group tried their hand at plotting enemy raids on a recreated Filter Room map, and learnt about the important work of RAF Bentley Priory during the Battle of Britain. They also found out about the contribution made by the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force).

It was a valuable learning experience for all the girls, allowing them to develop important historical enquiry skills.
