Pipers Corner hosted the regional round of the 2019 Historical Association Great Debate on Thursday 12 December, with Grace P in Year 13 representing Pipers Corner.

The question under discussion was “Should historical figures be judged by the morals of today?”.  Grace chose to speak about Phyllis Schlafly - a very controversial campaigner against the women's Equal Rights Amendment in the USA in the 1960s and 1970s.  Grace made us very proud with her well researched and superbly presented speech on this theme.

The winner of the regional round was a student from Bloxham School, who delivered a speech about Hitler’s treatment of women and another contender from Aldenham School, gave a fascinating account of the Ancient Greek poetess Sappho. The event was judged by Paula Kitching from the Historical Association and was well attended by supportive friends, relatives and teachers from the schools involved.
