Whole School Charity

As part of the charitable work done within the School, we were so pleased to welcome Street Kids Direct who delivered an inspiring assembly about the work they do for at-risk children in Latin America and to remind our students about the importance of speaking to someone they trust when having worries or anxieties.

Volunteer Nicola Raher used a Latin American folklore tale to give our students an understanding of the situation for young children in Guatemala, but also to put an important point across about how best to deal with anxious feelings and how communication can help.

Year 12 students Martha and Rosie felt it was important to work with the charity after interviewing volunteer Nicola for a special Pipers Radio Podcast, where she spoke more about the work they do for helping vulnerable children and youth living on the streets or at very high-risk of street life in Guatemala.

As part of the fundraising for Street Kids Direct, the students also arranged for a pared-back lunch to be served by Holroyd Howe on Thursday 27 April. The money saved will be donated to the Charity. Guatemalan ‘Worry Dolls’ (traditionally used to help children with their worries and anxieties and form part of Street Kids Directs work in that country) were also on sale for a few days after the assembly.
