Senior and Sixth Form Students recently received a glimpse into the promising career pathways within the creative industries during a captivating Visual Arts Careers Evening, illuminating the thriving prospects within the UK's creative sector.

The UK boasts a global reputation for excellence in the creative industries, contributing significantly to the nation's economy and cultural landscape. Notably, these industries contribute nearly £25 billion to the UK's trade balance, with a remarkable surge of 14.1% in filled jobs between 2019 and 2022, outstripping the average job increase across all sectors by over 20 times.

The event welcomed industry experts whose illustrious careers serve as guiding lights for aspiring creatives:

Heather Rackstraw (Alumnae), an Art Director renowned for her work on films like Beauty and the Beast, Doctor Strange, and Aquaman, shared her journey from graduating in Design for Film and Television to designing captivating film sets for iconic movies.

Lisa Mitchell, an esteemed designer with over two decades of experience, shared insights gained from her work on high-end residential and commercial projects across the globe after graduating in Interior Spatial Design.

Megan Durham (Alumnae), a Sculpture graduate from Central Saint Martins, enlightened attendees on her journey through art and ceramic shows, emphasising experimentation and human connection within her works.

Clare and Jonathan Cheetham, Emmy award-winning VFX Producers with careers spanning two decades, provided a glimpse into their impressive work on productions like Chernobyl and The Martian, offering invaluable expertise in VFX and talent development.

Catriona Pringle (Alumnae), a Knitwear Designer at Victoria Beckham, inspired students with her career trajectory from studying a Fashion BA to creating collections showcased at Paris Fashion Week.

Emily Bland (Alumnae), a Concept Designer for the Film and Games Industry, shared her experiences crafting imaginative designs for Disney after pursuing a degree in Design for Film and Television and a Masters in Concept Art.

Charlotte Rakowski, a creative leader in fashion and homewares design, innovation, and sustainability, offered her expertise in sustainable business practices gained from working with globally recognized brands like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren.

Jason Nightingale, a Location Manager on prominent Film and Television productions such as Mission Impossible and Star Wars, recounted thrilling moments coordinating filming at iconic landmarks and locations.

The event provided students with invaluable insights and firsthand experiences, inspiring the next generation of creative minds at Pipers to pursue fulfilling careers in the diverse realms of visual arts, and what subjects they can study to support their aspirations!
