District Netball Winners

The U15 Netball team gave a very impressive performance on Wednesday in the District Finals. The team, consisting of Alexa T (captain), Jade B, Amber C, Ellie G, Olivia W, Elise W, Eleanor M and Emily B, triumphed over stiff competition from Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, Wycombe High School, St Michael’s School and Wycombe Abbey School to become District Champions.

The girls have worked very hard over the four years they have been playing together at Pipers and have made great improvements in their game. In Year 7 they came 5th in the District Tournament and year on year they have moved up the ranks, coming 2nd last year.

Mrs Dollery, U15 Netball Coach said, “I am exceptionally proud of all these girls and their achievement which is so well deserved. It was also fabulous to see all their parents supporting at the tournament. The girls are really thrilled with their trophy and medals - let’s hope they can continue the success next year.”

During the games there was some excellent defensive work from Eleanor M and Olivia W making key interceptions and preventing their opposing players from dominating play. Ellie G and Alexa T worked tirelessly with little break in the centre court for all five matches and Jade B and Amber C shot well in our attacking circle.

• vs. Wycombe High School | 5 – 1 (win)
• vs. St Michaels School | 4 – 2 (win)
• vs. Wycombe Abbey School A Team | 3 – 4 (lost)
• vs. Wycombe Abbey School B Team | 4 – 3 (win)

Match Report by the U15 Captain Alexa T.

The U15A team have had a great season, culminating with a phenomenal win at the District Tournament held at Wycombe Abbey School. I know that during the tournament every person playing gave it their best effort and stayed focused. After winning the first game against Sir William Borlase's Grammar School (6 - 3), we felt even more determined to win the games that followed.

Our team then won against St.Michaels School (4 - 2), then Wycombe High School (5 - 1) and finally Wycombe Abbey B team (4 - 3). However, Wycombe Abbey won the game against us by one goal at 4 - 3.

I am really pleased with each player’s contribution because the team has taken on the constructive criticism from previous matches throughout the season and really worked together as a team. Furthermore, both attack and defence worked hard to try and keep the ball in possession throughout the entire tournament.

In Year 7 we came 5th, then last year we came 2nd and this year we became winners. As a team we have made a big turn around since the very first district tournament that we participated in. I would like to give thanks to our coach Mrs Dollery and to Chris for giving up their valuable time to coach us, mentor us and support us through our development.
