Senior School Pre-Prep and Prep

On Friday 22 January girls in the Prep Department, along with girls from Year 10, had the opportunity to listen to the Chief Scientist at NASA, Dr Ellen Stofan.

Dr Stofan was addressing pupils at St Catherine’s School in Bramley and her talk was streamed to all GSA schools across the country.  She talked about the different aspects of NASA and the areas they are currently researching including, how climate is affecting Earth, what happens to the body when in zero gravity and how we can grow plants in space.  All these things have an impact on our society as well as how it will affect us if we journey into space and ultimately to another planet such as Mars.

Dr Stofan also went on to speak about how girls need to be more active in science and choose it as a career.  Young girls now will be the future of space exploration and studying mathematics, geology or physics will help.

Head of Prep, Mrs Etchegoyen said “This was a very exciting talk to be a part of.  The girls listened carefully and were inspired by what Dr Ellen Stofan had to say about science and how it is extremely important for girls to be involved.”
